Early Years

The counseling practice began in 2001 with the mission of empowering families, adults, adolescents with tools to combat depression, disruptive behavior patterns, and anxiety. During the initial years, the company worked extensively with adolescent anger management issues and sexual abuse trauma. The practice teamed up with social service agencies such as Child Protective Services and Head Start to meet the needs in the community.

Middle Years

RCS, later expanded its reach to include the needs of employee’s in the work place through employee assistance programs, RCS focused on addressing issues such as major depression, anxiety, marital discord, and low self-esteem. In 2007, RCS moved it’s office from Houston, Texas to San Antonio. RCS, established it’s presence in the San Antonio region working closely with  employee’s from USAA, Citibank, HEB, Toyota and the US Military. 

Present Day- Marriage Counseling, Relationship Counseling, Self Confidence Tools

Currently, the central platform of the company is to help individuals release blocks to success that affect their Relationships, Confidence and LifeWe provide marriage counseling, family counseling, adolescent counseling, coaching, and online classes. We also host online course for individuals wanting to get their Relationship, Confidence and Life on track. RCS also believes in paying it forward, and currently has two successfully internship programs which train the counselors of tomorrow. Our Counselor training programs enables RCS to provide very reasonable pricing for people on limited incomes and the self-employed.

She currently manages the day to day operations of the counseling center and is also an adjunct professor at Webster University in San Antonio, Texas. She spends a large portion of her time writing and speaking to audience on issues related to self-esteem tools, confidence building and relationship quality for women. In 2014 she published her first children book titled “Straight Talk” addressing self-esteem and hair shaming for young girls.  She combines her practical straight forward approach to therapy, cognitive behavioral skills and her Christian perspective to give clients an effective counseling experience.

Dr. Neely is licensed by the Texas State Board of Professional Counselors and is an approved counselor supervisor. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Sam Houston State University, a Master’s degree in Counseling from Prairie View A & M University and a PhD in Counselor Education from St. Mary’s University.  She is supported by her husband and two beautiful daughters.

After a 28 year career as a mid-level manager for a Fortune 50 corporation, Kathy embarked on her long-time dream of a second career as a therapist. She chose this field after witnessing people, through skillful and compassionate therapy, learning and growing in ways that helped them reach their goals and improve their lives. Kathy applies her life skills and experience in working with adolescents, adults, couples and families to assist them through issues involving depression, anxiety, relationship conflict and grief.

She sees her role as assisting clients in making changes needed to accomplish their desired goals and she offers resources to support clients in making desired changes. She has worked in community health, outpatient, partial hospitalization, EAP and private practice settings. Using a strengths-based approach drawing from Narrative, Cognitive Behavioral and Solution Focused therapies, Kathy believes collaboration and creating a safe place for exploration and growth are the foundation of effective therapy. Her greatest joy is helping clients improve their lives.

April picApril Schoonover ~ Licensed Professional Counselor

April comes with six years experience working in the mental health field, consisting of case management to crisis and traditional counseling. She specializes in couples and individual counseling specifically women with past trauma and low self-esteem /self-worth issues. Her current theoretical perspective comes from CBT, Narrative and Relational Cultural Theory. She strongly believes that therapy should be a judgment- free safe environment and is passionate about helping clients grow and improve their lives. April holds a B.A in Psychology from New Mexico State University, M.A in Community Counseling from Webster University and is currently enrolled in the Counselor Education and Supervision Ph. D program at ST. Mary’s University.

Whitni Toson ~ Licensed Professional Counselor

Whitni is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 8 years of experience working in the Human Services field. Whitni graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2013 with her Master’s degree in Counseling, and went on to complete her postgraduate internship under the supervision of Dr. Kirleen Neely. Whitni is passionate about helping individuals, couples, and adolescents find peace, and learn new ways to reach their goals and aspirations. Using Solution-Focused or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, she has worked with clients from various backgrounds, in areas such as anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, anger management, relationship and communication issues, caregiver stress, and many other difficult life problems.
